why is it that i never really know what i'm doing?

i went to school. got the 27k in debt to prove it. they taught me all kindsa nifty stuff.

and yet, what do i do when an 8 year old pees on the floor in a stream from the self checks to the kids computers? (and just how big is an 8 year old's bladder anyway?) what do i do when a man with garlic and steak breath professes his undying love to me. again. for the 3rd time today.

this is a chronicle of what i did, when the crazy happened. which, in a public library is much more often than you'd think. and which, they also don't teach you about in liberry skool.

oh, and there's also a book review or two.

shit streaks

so, the last few weeks, our cleaning ladies have been cleaning shit streaks from the chairs in the adult areas.  1-2 chairs per day.  different chairs every time.  they didn't mention this until yesterday.

i have no idea why.  i mean, if there was shit on something i was cleaning, i'd be bitching about it to the entire world, right?  you would hear me complaining in antarctica.  and australia.  and maybe even on the moon.

but no, they just clean it up and don't say anything.  they're so sweet.

anywho, there i was, this morning, inspecting chairs for shit streaks before we opened.

and this is what i went to liberry skool for?

Puppet Play: 20 Puppet Projects Made with Recycled Mittens, Towels, Socks, and MorePuppet Play: 20 Puppet Projects Made with Recycled Mittens, Towels, Socks, and More by Diana Schoenbrun

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

i read this on my nook, so some of the pictures were a little small, but that didn't make them any less cute! a fun book with excellent instructions and very creative ideas. i especially loved the leg warmer turned elephant. what a cutie. there are resources for puppets and puppet play in the back of the book. an excellent book for people with children. what a great way to spend your family time!

depression? i think not!

Rules of CivilityRules of Civility by Amor Towles

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Towles, Amor. Rules of Civility. 10 CDs. 11.5 Hours. Penguin Audio. 2011. ISBN: 978-0-14-242927-3 $39.95. F

Rules of Civility tells the story of Katy Kontent's 1938. When she and her roommate Eve Ross meet handsome, wealthy Tinker Grey on New Year's Eve, a friendly competition starts between them to gain his affection. By spring, the rivalry develops into a romantic love triangle. After a terrible car accident in which Eve is disfigured, Katy backs out only to find that their triangle may have been a square. Narrated by Rebecca Lowman who fetches New York 1930's gin and jazz, decorating characters with her accents. A swell tale full of ring-a-ding-ding atmosphere and a leading lady who is hard boiled aces. Recommended to fans of The Adults by Alison Espach.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

this book is everything you want in an action book. cyn is brutally attacked and watches her parents get murdered right before her eyes by the russian mafia at the tender age of 11. lee is an accountant for the same russian mafia. after he tries to get the irs after them, his wife and daughter are murdered. both, independently go out for vengeance. cyn by turning ninja, lee by guns and brute force. unfortunately, they keep running into each other, going after the same bad guys. darkly funny and very fast paced. highly reccomended!

serial thriller

The Stranger You SeekThe Stranger You Seek by Amanda Kyle Williams

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

while i had some issues with the plot and sub-characters, i really liked the main character, keye. she's plucky and funny and flawed in a really likeable way. i also loved the sub-plots and diversions where she was handling her business as a PI, those were fun and interesting, even though they didn't advance the main plot.
