why is it that i never really know what i'm doing?

i went to school. got the 27k in debt to prove it. they taught me all kindsa nifty stuff.

and yet, what do i do when an 8 year old pees on the floor in a stream from the self checks to the kids computers? (and just how big is an 8 year old's bladder anyway?) what do i do when a man with garlic and steak breath professes his undying love to me. again. for the 3rd time today.

this is a chronicle of what i did, when the crazy happened. which, in a public library is much more often than you'd think. and which, they also don't teach you about in liberry skool.

oh, and there's also a book review or two.

iced out

Ice: A Memoir of Gangster Life and Redemption-from South Central to HollywoodIce: A Memoir of Gangster Life and Redemption-from South Central to Hollywood by Ice-T

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

i was very disappointed that ice didn't read this audiobook himself, it would have added to his distinct style and really made the book better. i enjoyed his descriptions of his life and his way of interacting with others. i also enjoyed his descriptions of his work in the t.v. and movie industry. ice is a respected member of the OG rap community and i grew up with his music. i loved having a little bit of insight into his work and world.

what's it like to be bright red?

When She WokeWhen She Woke by Hillary Jordan

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

i absolutely loved the idea of chromes, making people's skin color match their crimes so that we don't have to jail them? almost an attractive idea:) except, that, as usual, absolute power corrupts and in this novel, with church and state joined, chroming is a form of new world lynching with mostly blacks and low incomes being chromed. oh, and pro-choicers who had an abortion. i liked the main character's development from someone who was raised in the little boxed in, evangelical point of view finally coming to terms with her self and developing her own idea of who god is to her. a fast paged page turner as well. would not reccomend to teens, due to sex scenes (not graphic, but who wants the headache?, they'll find it anyway:).

Yummy recipe included

Sprinkles and SecretsSprinkles and Secrets by Lisa Schroeder

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Schroeder, Lisa. Sprinkles and Secrets. Aladdin. Sept 2011. ISBN: 978-1-4424-3246-8. $15.99 F

Gr 4-7

In the sequel to It's Raining Cupcakes, BFFs Isabel and Sophie have returned. Isabel has won the baking contest and now it is Sophie's turn to make her dream of becoming an actress come true. The only problem is, the commercial Sophie's been offered is for Beatrice's Brownies, the rival to Isabel's family's shop, It's Raining Cupcakes. When Sophie has to choose between her big break and her best friend, she stalls by lying to Isabel. Told in a similar style to the prequel with chapter headings named after favorite treats, Sophie is a like-able girl who cares very much about her friends. However, as in the previous story, supporting characters lack depth, including Isabel. Sophie's creative solutions to her problems are realistically kid-like and the happy ending will give readers the warm and fuzzies, as will the included recipes.
